Ned Montarello
Executive Chairman & Founder

Ned founded ThinkSmart in 1996 and has been credited with elevating the nano-ticket rental market sector in Australia, receiving the EY and Telstra Australian Government’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1998. In 2007 Ned successfully listed the business via a $204m IPO, migrating to the UK AIM in 2016. He led European expansion in 2003 and launched Clearpay in the UK in 2017.

In 2018, he negotiated the sale of 90% of Clearpay to Afterpay. In 2021 he negotiated the exchange of ThinkSmart’s remaining 10% for shares in Afterpay, subsequently exchanged for NYSE-listed Block Inc shares following the $39bn acquisition. In 2022 Ned established Tuscan Equity Pty Ltd as the buy-out vehicle to acquire ThinkSmart through a Scheme of Arrangement, implemented in December 2022.

Adam Montarello
Non-Executive Director

Adam is an adviser to Tuscan Equity. He was an Associate Director at KPMG Australia, specialising in debt advisory for clients in the Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure sectors. His six years at KPMG ranged across Audit, Restructuring and Corporate Finance.

A Chartered Accountant with bachelor’s degrees in Law and Commerce from the University of Western Australia.

Scott Montarello
Non-Executive Director

Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Driva, a digital financing platform matching consumers with their best loan option in market. Co-founded in 2019, Driva is one of Australia’s fastest growing start-ups — AFR Fast Starters, #3 Deloitte Tech Fast 50, and winner of the consumer lending category at the Australian Fintech Awards.

Prior to Driva, Scott was a Management Consultant at McKinsey & Company, spending most of his time in the private equity and financial services industries.

Gary Halton
Chief Financial Officer

CFO of the Group since 2008, also serving as interim Managing Director from October 2012 to January 2014. Previously Head of Finance Services and Head of Group Taxation at De Vere Group plc.

A qualified chartered accountant and chartered tax advisor with over 20 years’ post-qualification experience, having qualified with Ernst & Young and held a senior manager role at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Keith Jones
Consultant Adviser

Non-Executive Director on the ThinkSmart Europe Board from 2020 to 2023, and previously CEO of ThinkSmart, Group Strategy Director, and Non-Executive Director of the main ThinkSmart Group Board. Over 35 years of retail experience — CEO of JJB Sports plc, COO of Halfords, and Group Retail Director of Dixons Retail plc.

Previously Managing Director of PC World Stores Group with responsibility for the UK, Spain, France, Italy and Nordics. MBA, Manchester Business School.
